At the Great Andaman Ideas Summit 2026, Lieutenant Governor D.K. Joshi outlined an ambitious roadmap to transform the Andaman and Nicobar Islands into India’s premier maritime, tourism and strategic hub. Highlighting major initiatives including the Great Nicobar International Transshipment Port, new greenfield airports, digital connectivity, renewable energy, ship repair facilities, luxury tourism projects and enhanced inter-island transport, he said the islands are entering a new phase of infrastructure-led growth. Stressing the region’s unmatched geostrategic importance, the LG called for greater investment, sustainable development and national attention to unlock the islands’ vast economic and strategic potential.
